Here are the
seven stations for our labyrinth…
(If you have
MS Publisher then you can click here
for the nice looking signs – feel free to change and use yourself)
Each of
these was posted in a stand-up sign (see large
pics for example) and the black-lights from the ceiling made them more
visible in the dimly lit room.
STATION NUMBER ONE
“Lord, teach us to pray”
This prayer labyrinth is oriented
around the Lord’s Prayer. Each station
focuses on another aspect of the Lord’s Prayer.
Each section is a launching point into a kind of prayer.
At our church we’ve been
including the request the Disciples posed to Jesus which caused him to respond
giving us the “Lord’s Prayer.” We begin
the prayer by saying “Lord, teach us to pray.”
Take a moment now to pray the
Lord’s Prayer silently to God the Father.
“Lord, teach us to pray
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy Name
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be
done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day, our daily
bread.
And forgive us our sins,
As we forgive those
who sin against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the Kingdom, and the
power, and the glory forever.
Amen.”
Now you may choose to sit at one
of the chairs to your left and think (meditate) one the following thoughts:
By praying, “Lord, teach us to
pray” you are humbly admitting that you do not have the “right words.”
By praying, “Lord, teach us to
pray” you are committing to learn to pray with others (note the “us” in the
request.)
Let all your previous ideas and
baggage about the Lord’s prayer fall off you now. Release your church background and past
experience and enter into a new experience now.
STATION NUMBER TWO
“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name”
Jesus taught us to pray with a
sense that God’s name is to be revered and holy. Take time to write the one of God’s names on
the wall here that you find in scripture or in those below. Or write the scripture using God’s name to
demonstrate how you need God to reveal himself to you our or others today!
El Shaddai: “God Almighty.” (Gen.
17:1; 28:3; 35:11; Ex. 6:31; Ps. 91:1, 2).
El Elyon: “The Most High God.”
(Gen. 14:19; Ps. 9:2; Dan. 7:18, 22, 25).
El Olam: “The Everlasting God.”
(Gen. 16:13).
Yahweh (YHWH): Comes from a verb which
means “to exist, be, to be in relationship with.” (Gen. 4:3; Ex. 6:3 (cf.
3:14); 3:12).
Yahweh Jireh (Yireh): “The Lord will
provide.” (Gen. 22:14).
Yahweh Nissi: “The Lord is my
Banner.” (Ex. 17:15).
Yahweh Shalom: “The Lord is Peace.”
(Jud. 6:24).
Yahweh Sabbaoth: “The Lord of Hosts.” (1
Sam. 1:3; 17:45).
Yahweh Maccaddeshcem: “The Lord your
Sanctifier.” (Ex. 31:13).
Yahweh Ro’i: “The Lord my Shepherd.”
(Ps. 23:1).
Yahweh Tsidkenu: “The Lord our
Righteousness.” (Jer. 23:6).
Yahweh Shammah: “The Lord is there.”
(Ezek. 48:35).
About Jesus... the Name above all
names:
¨ Salvation is through His
name (John 1:12).
¨ Believers are to gather
in His name (Matt. 18:20).
¨ Prayer is to be made in
His name (John 14:13-14).
¨ The servant of the Lord
who bears the name of Christ will be hated (Matt. 10:22).
¨ The book of Acts makes
frequent mention of worship, service, and suffering in the name of Jesus Christ
(Acts 4:18; 5:28, 41; 10:43).
¨ It is at the name of
Jesus that every knee will one day bow and every tongue confess that Jesus
Christ is Lord (Phil. 2:10-11).
STATION NUMBER THREE
“Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in
heaven. ”
One of the oldest ways of praying
is to light a candle. Take a moment now
to light one of these candles for one of the following two reasons:
Light a candle for someone who
needs to begin following Jesus Christ — perhaps someone on your “my 5”
list. It is God’s will that all men and
women might come to know Him. So you are
always praying for his will to be done when you pray for someone’s salvation.
Light a candle for someone who
needs physical healing (perhaps even yourself.)
Pray in faith that Jesus will bring his healing touch. Remember that in heaven there will be no
sickness and death—and if it is God’s will for that to be true on earth as it
is in heaven, then we should ask for healing!
“The Lord is not slow in keeping
his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not
wanting anyone to perish, but
everyone to come to
repentance.”
- 2 Peter 3:9
“...all who touched him were
healed.”
- Matt 14:36b
STATION NUMBER FOUR
“Give us this day,
our daily bread.”
Take a moment to kneel on this
mat and take communion (if you cannot kneel use the chairs nearby).
Exhale slowly and thank the Lord
for blessing you:
For providing your food and water
For giving you friends and family
For supplying even the air you
are now exhaling
TAKE THE BREAD AND HOLD IT IN
YOUR HAND
Inhale slowly and pray that he
would again sustain you through his Body and Blood which were shed on the cross
for your sins.
NOW YOU MAY DIP THE BREAD IN THE
FIRST CUP
OR EAT THE BREAD AND DRINK
DIRECTLY FROM THE OTHER “COMMON” CUP.
As is our tradition at SWLC may
also choose to give thanks for God’s blessing in your life and provision of
your “daily bread” by passing on the blessing.
The benevolent offering box is
here if you would like to give to the poor.
STATION NUMBER FIVE
“And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin
against us ”
When we have not obeyed the Lord’s
command to forgive those that sin against us it is like a fish hook lodged in
our cheek. It ties us back to the sin
against us so we cannot move ahead. And
it is painful.
Take a moment to release yourself
from anything anyone has done to you that you have not
forgiven them for. The cards provided
help you work through praying to forgive them.
Take a hook for each person you
are forgiving today. Place that hook
into this cork cross signifying that you are giving that unforgiveness over to
Christ…
You may be led to a further step
as you do so to even ask God to forgive them of that sin as well.
“And when you stand praying, if
you hold anything against
anyone, forgive him, so that your
Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.” - Mark 11:25
STATION NUMBER SIX
“And lead us not
into temptation, but deliver us from evil”
Following Jesus Christ is a
spiritual battle. The Bible speaks about
“putting on all of God’s armor” in this spiritual battle. When you are tempted God will not allow it to
go beyond what you can bear. Take a
moment now to think of the areas in which you are most tempted these days?
What sins do you find yourself
falling into?
What situations do you find
yourself in that are hard to resist sin in?
What life-long struggles have you
had with sin?
Take a moment right now to pray
through the provided “Preparing for War” prayer and begin to live in victory
over temptation!
The Armor of God
“Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm
against all strategies and tricks of the Devil. For we are not fighting against
people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities of
the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world,
and against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms.
“Use every piece of God's armor to resist the enemy in the time of evil,
so that after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground,
putting on the sturdy belt of truth and the body armor of God's righteousness.
For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News, so that you will be
fully prepared. In every battle you will need faith as your shield to stop the
fiery arrows aimed at you by Satan. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take
the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray at all times and on
every occasion in the power of the Holy Spirit. Stay alert and be persistent in
your prayers for all Christians everywhere.
-Ephesians 6:11-18 (NLT)
STATION NUMBER SEVEN
“For Thine is the
Kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.
Amen.”
Thank you for taking the time to
walk this prayer labyrinth. May God
bless you as you walk out into the rest of your day.
Before you leave, please take a
moment to write a praise to our Father God who has all the power
and glory in the universe.
After you have posted a praise on
a card you may also:
Post a prayer request you would
like others to pray over
Post a thought or word from the
Lord he gave you in the Labyrinth for others to be encouraged or instructed by
Post a personal comment to others
that walk the prayer labyrinth
“Be of one mind, live in peace.
The God of love and peace will be with you. May the grace of the Lord Jesus
Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you
all.” -2 Cor 13:11 & 14
