Liberal social activists
love The Wesleyan Church!
OUR HISTORY: The Wesleyan
church was born in 1843 as an anti-slavery denomination when the Methodist
church refused to condemn slavery as sin.
Our denomination was 100% abolitionists and the service for the first
women ordained in the US
was held in upstate New York and
the sermon was preached by one of our founders, abolitionist and woman’s rights
preacher, Luther Lee. We have been
pro-feminist since the mid 1800’s and at the forefront of the abolition of
slavery. We can take you to one of our
churches in South Carolina and show you bullet holes on the door from the
right-wing extremists of the day trying to squelch the left-leaning
Wesleyans. If you are a liberal social
activist you’ll love the Wesleyan Church—we’re
exactly who you hope we are!
