When to say “NO” to performing a Wedding?
Young ministers
who have been given the right to perform weddings soon discover they have to
decide when to say yes or no. Most pastors say “no” to performing
some weddings. The following list is not made up—they are real questions young
ministers face.
When do YOU say no?
1.
I say NO to couples who won’t
get counseling first.
2.
I say NO to marrying two
unbelievers.
3.
I say NO to marrying a Christian
and an unbeliever.
4.
I say NO to marrying people who do
not attend my church.
5.
I say NO to marrying people who
have previously been divorced.
6.
I say NO to marrying two people
who are already living together.
7.
I say NO to marrying two people
of the same sex.
8.
I say NO to marrying any couples
excluded by my local church’s wedding policy.
Is there any
other wedding to which you “just say no?”
Do you say YS to any of these? Why? How would you answer a
young minister trying to craft their own marriage policies? What is you policy
on these questions?
So what do you think?
