One Nation Under God?

What would a nation be like that was totally committed to God?   Just imagine.  Can you conceive of such a thing?   What if we got in charge of this nation and rewrote the constitution?  What if we wrote God—the true God, our God—right into our constitution?  Can you conceive it?  Then, what if we took over the Supreme Court, the congress, the executive branch and all state and local governments so that we’d see “God’s will done on earth as it is done in heaven?”   What would such a nation look like?

For starters, I bet we’d make abortion illegal.  We’d forget trying to reverse Roe vs. and simply pass a national law making any and all abortions illegal.   If a nation put God and His laws first, abortions would become illegal the next day…no, the first afternoon.

And I bet we’d totally outlaw prostitution too.  Can you imagine a nation submitted to God’s laws that would even consider legalized prostitution—even in Nevada?   Never!  We make it illegal.  And we’d even make punishments for prostitutes and clients stricter too I bet.

I’m sure we’d shut the pornography industry.  Can you imagine a nation fully under God’s rule permitting porn?  Never! We’d make it illegal as fast as we could.  There’d be no porn on the Internet, none in magazines and we’d even eliminate the porn in  romance novels so women couldn’t have it either.  No more porn.  If we got in charge and made this one nation under God we’d not be recognizing people’s rights” to look at such garbage. Face it; a nation under God would always let morality trump freedom.

And we’d outlaw homosexual practice too I think. If our constitution submitted to God’s law do you think we’d let people practice homosexuality? No way!  We’d make it illegal and punish evildoers with severe penalties—maybe even the death penalty.

In fact I bet we’d outlaw adultery too. Certainly if we turned this nation into a God-fearing nation we’d need to make adultery illegal. We couldn’t pick and choose some of the Ten Commandments to enforce and leave others out. No way!  If we got control of this nation and rewrote the Constitution we’d need to ban all adultery—no exceptions.

I bet we’d change the divorce laws too.  Who is going to argue that divorce is God’s will for a nation?  Not me.  Will you?  Nope.  If we get in charge and make this country “one nation under God” I bet we’d want to make almost all divorces illegal and we’d even make the legalized ones harder to get.

Maybe we’d even prohibit “lascivious dancing.” Have you seen some of these bump-and-grind dancing in Ft. Lauderdale on spring break?  Do you think this sort of rubbing is God’s will for these college students? Not likely.  So if we get in charge and rewrite the constitution to recognize God’s values I suspect we’ll be wanting to pass a law against such corrupt dancing.

OK, one more: How about language?  Wouldn’t it make sense that if we became a nation under God we’d want to pass a law making blasphemy punishable by death?  At least we’d want to give it a long prison term.   I mean, if we were really serious about God’s name could we let people get away with this most serious sin of all?  I doubt it.  So, if we rewrote the constitution to make our nation truly serve God and we enshrined God’s law as the source of our constitution we’d certainly make cursing God one of the most serious penalties of all.

So, can you imagine it?  Can you imagine a nation like I’ve described?

Of course you don’t have to imagine it—such nations exist already.   This is precisely what Islamic fundamentalist nations are.

So what do you think?
