Kid’s Questions
for God

The
following questions were asked by the elementary age kids of the God’s
Greenhouse ministry at
You guys asked some GREAT questions! I’m so excited to talk about several of them. I want to let you know that one of the best
things about God is that he appreciates our questions. As amazing as God is—he doesn’t mind that we
sometimes want to know more about him, or even when we have a tough question
about him. God loves to be asked
questions. All throughout the Bible we
see people who are asking God questions, and Jesus’ disciples were constantly
asking him questions. Much of what we
now know about God is because people asked good questions, just like you kids
are doing!
(Some questions are
grouped together with other similar questions from other kids. If names were given they are included, last
names were deleted)
Let’s
get on to your questions…
WHAT GOD IS LIKE
How do you know my
thoughts? -Christie
How do you know all my big, big thoughts? -Randi
-Christi
and Randi are right in saying that God knows our
thoughts. Luke 6:8 talks about how “Jesus
knew their thoughts” when people were asking him questions. God knows the big questions we have even if
we don’t ask them. And God even knows
when we think bad things. The Bible
often talks about God knowing when people have bad thoughts. This is why it’s important to be honest with
God about what we think—because he already knows anyway. I have no idea how God knows our
thoughts. We believe that God knows
everything, and that includes our thoughts.
What is God’s favorite
animal? PS: I like red-eyed tree frogs
-God
definitely likes red-eyed tree frogs. He
created frogs so he must love them. The
small
Does God know all the verses
of the Holy Bible? -Alyssa
Since
God knows everything he must know all the verses in the Bible. You might consider the Bible to be his letter
to us, his people. So that makes those
words even more important to him and us than all the other books around
combined.
How long did Jesus live on
the earth?
Jesus
seems to have lived about 30 to 35 years, but we don’t know how old he
was. I’m 30 years old this year, so you
might imagine him being about my age when he was doing those miracles and
teaching the people.
How much things was he
sent on earth for?
Jesus
was sent to earth to do several things but a few are the most important:
Why is God so big?
-I
can’t really tell how big God really is.
It’s hard to imagine. Is he
bigger than a plane or a huge building?
Is he bigger than the earth? I
don’t know. In Isaiah 66:1 God says, "Heaven
is my throne, and the earth is my footstool.”
Much of the Bible is an attempt to describe just how huge God really is. It’s a fun thing to do!
How does he know all the
people in the world?
-God
loves the whole world. Every person. Jesus
said that not even a bird can fall to the ground without God the Father knowing
it (Matthew
How did you know about
me? -Hunter
-God
not only loves everyone—he loves YOU.
And he loves you even though he knows everything you’ve ever done wrong
or thought wrong.
GOD THE CREATOR
How does God make things?
How does God
make people?
How can He
make people out of dirt?
How did you
make me?
How do you
make miracles?
How can you
make the moon?
How can he
make the sun?
Does God
make cats?
-God
created the universe and the earth and everything on earth. He made the sun and the moon. He made dogs and cats. In Isaiah 44:24 God says, "I am the
LORD, who made all things. I alone stretched out the heavens. By myself I made
the earth and everything in it.” Genesis
1 talks about how God made Adam out of dirt on the sixth day of creation. That seems a little strange, that he made a
person out of dirt. But God could have
made Adam out of nothing if he wanted. God
can do whatever miracle he wants to do—that’s what makes God, God. God made the universe out of nothing. But God wanted to make Adam out of something…
and he chose dirt. Maybe God wanted to
point out that we people shouldn’t think to much of
ourselves since we’re just made out of dirt.
Or maybe God wanted us to know that we are connected to the earth in a
special way. I don’t know. What do you think? Why did God make the first person out of
dirt?
DEATH, HEAVEN & THE
FUTURE
What is my future?
-Sawyer
-None
of us knows our future… but God would be able to tell you if you had the chance
to ask him a question. God may give you
hints about your future through the things you’re good at and love to do. But more importantly Romans
Does God know when we are
going to die?
How does God know how long I am going to live? -Nathan
-Again,
since God knows everything, he also knows how long we’re going to live and when
we’ll die. That makes us wonder why God
doesn’t tell us the big secret. Or why
he doesn’t do something about it so we won’t die. But God has a plan for our lives up to the
point we die—and we can’t do it if we see it coming.
If we will see him in
heaven?
-Yes,
we will see God the Father and Jesus in heaven.
When Jesus was dying on the cross he told the thief next to him that
believed he was the Son of God, “This very day you will be with me in paradise.”
( Luke 23:43) And the book of Revelation says that we will
stand around the Throne of God and sing his praises in heaven. It says each of us will have cool crowns to
wear in heaven… not like the cardboard crowns from burger king that you throw
away, but they’ll be precious gold and silver and diamond covered crowns, and
you’ll have a lot of them!
My dog died this
summer. Am I going to see her up there?
-Jesus
went to heaven to prepare a very specific place for you that will be perfect
just for YOU. That place will be like a
room in God’s massive mansion he says. That
room will be just what you need to make heaven paradise for you. I don’t really know if dogs or other animals go
to heaven and we don’t hear of that in the Bible. But maybe God will make a place for your dog
too if it made you so happy.
Am I going to get
married? -Axel
-I
don’t know if you’ll get married. Many
people ask this question that are unmarried. If you do get married it is most important to
make God the center of that marriage.
How does God look and
heaven look? -Tanner
-The
Bible talks about heaven with some pretty amazing ideas. It says the streets will be paved with Gold
and it will always be daytime. No one
will cry anymore and no one will die anymore. Some people have imagined heaven to be full of
clouds and people playing harps—but there’s no reason to think that’s what it’s
really like.
What you think heaven may be like is as good as what I think. Describing what you think heaven will be like
is a really fun thing to do. What do you
think?
FINAL QUESTIONS:
How come people don’t like
God?
-Some
people feel like God has intentionally hurt them or made their life hard. But God in fact loves them and wants to
protect them. The evil of the world and
the Devil are what have hurt them or made their life hard. Some people don’t like church people, and so
they don’t like God because they don’t like his people. It’s our job to be good to people so they
also want to know our good God. Some
people don’t like God because they just don’t know enough about him. It’s also our job to tell them more about
God.
Do you like me?
What does
God like?
What is
God’s favorite thing?
-God’s
favorite thing is you. He more than
likes you—he loves you. In John 15:12-14
Jesus says to those that follow him, “I command you to love each other in the
same way that I love you…. The greatest
love is shown when people lay down their lives for their friends. You are my
friends if you obey me.” Jesus did lay
down his life for you on the cross to show that he loved you. He also likes things about you and would love
to spend all those years in heaven with you.
